Free one-to-one support to turn your business idea into a reality
Starting a business can be overwhelming, especially if you’re not sure where to begin. That’s where our Pre-Start and Start-Up Framework comes in. Whether you’re still refining your idea or just about to register your business, this light-touch programme offers practical, personalised guidance to help you take the next steps with confidence.
September 2025 update: We’ve temporarily closed this programme to new applicants. Owing to the high levels of initial interest and take-up, this programme is currently paused – but please watch this space as we’re keeping it under close review, and the programme will reopen in due course.
Who can join?
- Individuals based in East Sussex (excluding Brighton and Hove)
- People who are not yet trading or who have started very recently (within the last two years)
- Anyone looking for friendly, jargon-free advice on how to start a business
Why take part?
You’ll be matched with a dedicated Growth Hub adviser for three one-to-one sessions over a short period. These can take place online or, where possible, in person.
Each session is designed to move you closer to launch:
- Session 1: Exploring Your Business Idea – we’ll help you clarify your goals, understand your market and consider how your idea could work in practice
- Session 2: Building the Basics – together we’ll look at business structure, legal requirements, cashflow, pricing and marketing essentials, all using templates and tools to guide your thinking
- Session 3: Making It Happen – we’ll help you map out your next steps, signpost any funding or training opportunities, and check your readiness to launch; if needed, we’ll also guide you on how to apply for funding.
This isn’t a formal training course or workshop series, it’s a flexible support package tailored to you – designed to give you the structure, clarity and confidence to get going. You’ll leave with a simple plan, a clearer understanding of what’s involved, and a direct line to further help if you need it.
